  • Before You Begin

  • This award is available to graduating high school seniors who live in the U.S. and identify as atheist, agnostic, humanist and/or secular, and are accepted into two or four-year colleges. Preference is given to Black/African American, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Native American students, as well as BIPOC youth whose families have been economically and personally impacted by COVID-19.

    Students who are (or have been) in foster care, homeless, undocumented, disabled and/or LGBTQI+ are encouraged to apply.

    BEFORE COMPLETING ONLINE APPLICATION, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS READY TO UPLOAD:

    1. Your two to three paragraph essay (between 400 – 700 words) on the following topic: Humanism is based on the belief that every human being should be treated equally regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and disability status. Human beings, not gods, are solely responsible for creating social change. Why do you identify as non-religious/secular and what issue(s) are you passionate about addressing in your community? How might Humanism make a positive difference in creating social change?
    2. A letter of recommendation from an advisor/teacher. (You can attach a separate page listing your participation in school and/or community-based organizations if this is not included in your advisor/teacher letter.
    3. A copy of your Admission letter to your 2 or 4 year college
